Shopping The World by Waterways & Land
What do travelers want to bring home from their holidays and vacations? “Things” Tangible memories that serve as treasured reminders of our travel experiences. This can include an array of unique items - fashion, food, jewelry, home décor, art, crafts, books, music, and more.
As the Port of Call Shopper, I travel the world by oceans, rivers, canals, and by land, in search of creative, fashionable, delicious, and indigenous Things found in historic seaports and picturesque waterfront towns. I meet artisans in their studios and workshops, visit unique galleries, and explore intriguing retail shops to showcase the best in local craftsmanship and cultural creativity.
Don’t get me wrong, experiences can be much more valuable than just Things. That’s why, in addition to sharing my unique shopping discoveries, I also share my cruising experiences aboard a variety of vessels, including ocean liners, riverboats, private yachts, and canal boats.
Join me on these remarkable journeys as I shop for authentic Things handcrafted by talented local artisans, craftspeople, and designers around the world.

Meet Kathy
After decades working in the travel and retail industries (and a ton of frequent flyer miles), Kathy turned her passion for shopping into Port of Call Shopper—a blog dedicated to uncovering authentic, handcrafted goods in the world’s most wander-worthy ports and waterfront locales.
Kathy has explored over 30 countries, working with travel trade and media to help top U.S. shopping destinations woo affluent tourists. As a Retail Tourism Specialist, she now writes for her blog and numerous travel publications. When not treasure-hunting around the world, meeting artists and makers, you’ll find Kathy living aboard a 52’ boat in San Diego or desert-side in Scottsdale, with her husband Scott and their rescue pal, Cooper.
Kathy is a member of TravMedia, the International Travel Writers Alliance, and a content creator with She’s Wanderful.
